It got erased when I upgraded to Sierra (regrettably). I was able to install MySQL on OS X Mountain Lion back in 2013 with no problem. Over the years, it has become difficult to ensure that the script works on all of the versions of macOS still in use, and support from MySQL for macOS is slow. I searched for "MySQL" in spotlight search and found 'MySQL Preferences Pane' and clicked on 'Start MySQL Server' button but the status still shows "The MySQL Server Instance is stopped" ('stopped in red font). Install MySQL on macOS High Sierra In the past, we maintained a script for automating the installation of MySQL on macOS. I also tried to install the MySQL Workbench and both new and older versions with same results.
Instead, you can update your path to include /usr/local/mysql/bin. However there are other commands that are helpful such as mysqldump. The README suggests creating aliases for mysql and mysqladmin. The programs seem to install just fine but afterwards they are not found in Applications folder and server setting shows 'stopped' and cannot be turned ON.
